Education is our Passport to the Future
Increase student knowledge of African American history beyond the standard curricula deficit model.
Strengthen cultural identity and self-confidence among participants
Encourage critical thinking about history, systems, and contemporary society
Promote family and community engagement through student-led presentations, community mentors and showcases
The Learning Experience
Learning in Legacy Lab is hands-on, interactive, and creative. Through discussion, storytelling, art, music, movement, reading, writing, and other engaging activities, children are encouraged to explore history in ways that resonate with them.
At the end of every session, families are invited to join us for a special recap performance. Each child chooses how they'd like to share what they've learned—whether through artwork, dramatic readings, spoken word, music, presentations, or another creative expression. These showcases celebrate each child's unique voice while reinforcing the knowledge they've gained and creating meaningful opportunities for parents to be part of the learning experience.
